Deadline for Abstracts: 1st June 2022.

The theme for this conference, which will be held virtually on 14th September 2022, is the strategic directions and the responses of the History professional community to the recent 2022 QAA History Subject Benchmark.
Published in March 2022, the new Benchmark Statement combines both more traditional elements of a History degree with consideration of newer and emergent themes in global HE, such as global development goals, social mobility through graduate employment, entrepreneurialism, and sustainability. Many institutions have approached these areas through the vehicle of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. These have however been criticised by some as difficult to implement or difficult to quantify internationally.
This conference aims to offer a space to discuss what the shift towards these new measures and strategies means for the History profession and for History degrees.
The EMC would like to invite short 150 to 200- word abstracts for contributions for either short presentations, roundtable topics or best practice case study examples for inclusion at the conference and AGM.
We welcome different ways of presenting or sharing ideas. You could suggest a poster, a round-table discussion topic, a workshop or panel theme, a TED-style talk or a more formal presentation.
Potential themes for contributions could include:
• Teaching and learning sustainability in Humanities subjects (English, Creative Writing, History)
• Decolonization of History curricula and teaching
• Inclusive teaching practices
• Class in the History classroom
• Employability, careers learning, and working with graduates and employers
We welcome ideas and contributions from undergraduate students, postgraduate students, early career researchers and established History academics from across the East Midlands. We especially would like to hear from students about your experiences and interests in sustainability and inclusivity in History education.
To submit a proposal, please email caroline.nielsen@northampton.ac.uk.
Deadline for abstracts: 1st June 2022.
